The Lindley Hall hosted its largest ever exhibition of botanical art at the London Orchid Show in March. The Botanical Art Show, held at the RHH brought together the RHS’s annual Orchid Show with a display of paintings and drawings of plants. Works by more than 25 artists from as far a field as Japan, Australia and Taiwan were shown alongside the RHS’ commissioned works of award winning orchids.

The RHS Lindley Library has a collection of more than 7,000 drawings depicting award winning orchids. A display of 20 gold-medal winning contemporary works was also on show.

RHS international orchid registrar Julian Shaw said: "Orchids are currently the most popular pot plants. Current biotechnology enables millions of clones to be produced rapidly from a first class plant, and make them available affordably through retail outlets. In the last two decades, Orchids have gone from being a class symbol to global pot plant market leader, only rivalled by Poinsettias at Christmas time."

The show also featured a series of talks aimed at all levels with further displays from the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies.
